We listened to Professor Orłowski and have a few observations
We had the pleasure of participating in the recent Visa Commercial Day, where we listened with great interest to the presentation of the eminent economist, Professor Witold Orłowski. It was an extremely valuable experience for us, for which we sincerely thank you.
Professor Orłowski's speech shed light on the current economic situation of Poland and its prospects against the background of Europe and the world.
The Polish Economy Against the Background of Europe
The Polish economy shows impressive GDP growth, which exceeds the average of the euro zone and the European Union by 2-3 percentage points. This is undoubtedly a positive signal, however, Professor Orłowski drew attention to potential challenges in the future, especially in the context of the economic condition of China.
The Labour Market and Wages
Currently, we are enjoying a very low unemployment rate in Poland. Nevertheless, the average wage still constitutes about half of the salary in Great Britain, which indicates the existing potential for growth in this area.
Factors for Further Development
Professor Orłowski emphasized that the further dynamic development of our economy is strongly dependent on the growth of investment. Without it, Poland's GDP growth potential, estimated at a maximum of 3%, may be limited.
The Impact of Labour Costs and Technology
Rising labour costs place an imperative on the Polish economy for the automation and digitization of processes, including the implementation of artificial intelligence-based solutions. Without these steps, maintaining the pace of economic development may be difficult.
Innovations in the Payments Sector
During the event, we also learned about the scale of innovation taking place in Poland. The Visa technology centre in our country employs as many as 1,500 specialists who work on breakthrough technological solutions. The number of cards served, which amounts to 20 million, is also impressive.
The Fourth Industrial Revolution
We are observing dynamic changes in the economy, which are inextricably linked to the fourth industrial revolution. Technological innovations affect every area of our lives.
Historical Context and the Present
In addition to these considerations, Professor Orłowski recalled that the first mobile phones appeared in Poland only in 1992. For today's Generation Z, a world without mobile devices is something absolutely incomprehensible. This is a perfect illustration of the pace of change taking place before our eyes.
